Project Bismillah
The word "Bismillah" is an Arabic word that means "In the name of Allah (God)". In Islam, this word is spoken before undertaking any act. This program was given the name 'Project Bismillah' because the first act of work for Noshi was setting up this program successfully.
To feed the homeless and reduce food wastage, Noshi has partnered with local restaurants and grocery stores such as Whole Foods Market to collect day-end food to donate to homeless shelters.
This day-end or week-end food is usually thrown away and wasted, but by no fault of the restaurant or grocery store. Understandably, these businesses aim is to serve their customers the best quality food and often are not connected with any person or organization to donate unused amounts.
Along with a local Whole Foods Market, Noshi is working to add more food-sellers to collect from in the Maryland and Virginia areas. If you are a restaurant owner or associate and wish to participate, please contact us at contact@noshi.org and we would love to work with you!
Currently, Noshi is donating the collected food to two homeless shelters in Baltimore- My Sister's Place Women's Center and Kari's Home- and looking to donate to additional shelters as we grow.
Though Project Bismillah emphasizes and focuses on food wastage reduction, we also welcome fresh food donations or monetary donations for the purpose of purchasing fresh food to supplement our day-end or week-end food collection work. If you would like to purchase and donate fresh food, or cook large meals for the purpose of feeding the homeless, please see below and contact us!
